Questionnaire
for the Early Years of Women in Television Project:
A
project collecting essays from women who worked in television before 1955
This questionnaire involves three
sections. The first provides basic information that will help me track when and
where the contributors have worked. Contact information will not be included
in any public document and will only be used if I need to contact you to
clarify anything. Answers in the second section are for publication, to
understand when and where the contributor worked.
The third section is optional. Although any
information on any woman who worked in television during the period is welcome
either an answer to at least one question in section three or a personal essay,
letter, or journal entry concerning the topic is necessary for inclusion in the
final work. Contributors are welcome to answer questions in the third section in
addition to or instead of a personal essay of any length on any topic relevant
to their experience working in television before 1955. The questions in the
third section are meant to suggest topic ideas and generate information from any
contributor who may need a more focused writing guide. Contributors should feel
free to write a four-sentence answer or a 14-page answer. The third section is
additionally intended to help a contributor who feels too pressed for time to
write something new. Maybe she can find a small break one day to answer a few
questions. Even a brief contribution with answers to only a few questions will
enable me to acknowledge you as one of a large number of women who worked during
television’s early years. I have a suspicion there were many more women in the
industry at that time than most people would expect today, and I would like to
convey that in the final work.
This questionnaire is meant to be a general
questionnaire that can be filled out by the woman who worked in television or,
if she is no longer able to write, her family. The personal information in the
first section should include the information for someone I can contact if any
part of the questionnaire is lost or hard to read, in other words the person who
submitted the work, not necessarily the original author if she’s deceased. The
other two sections, concerning the contributor, should address the identity and
opinions of the woman who worked in television.
Thank you so much for helping me with this project. I
hope it helps you remember some good times and helps future readers better
understand our past. Feel free to email me at the address below with any
questions about this project at any time.
Sincerely,
